The 108 th International Art Fair, Antiques - Brocante  du 2020-04-10 au 2020-04-13

For nearly 40 years now, the flea market has forged the identity of the city of Isloise, ensuring it an international reputation. It all began in 1890 with the Légier family and continues today with the fourth generation in the crafts of woodworking and antiquity.
In 1890, Joseph Légier was an antique set on the Isle on the Sorgue. He moved to Paris after the First World War. His son Raymond worked alongside him and after the Wall Street Krach, the family returned to Provence. René Légier, Joseph's grandson, was the first fair at the flea market in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. He attended an exhibition at the Palais des Papes d'Avignon, seduced, he decided with his friend Albert Gassier and the help of their wives to organize the first fair at the flea market on August 15, 1966; 14 exhibitors are present: men, furniture, objects and an island in the middle drawn by the arms of a river, La Sorgue. In the quiet city, more than 40 years ago, an idea sprouted. This idea, gleaned from meeting to meeting, from convergence to convergence, led in 1966 to the creation of the first Fair at the Flea Market of the Island on the Sorgue. It is not only the first fair at the flea market of the Island on the Sorgue but the first in the province as well.
It innovates, it inaugurates and sets a new economic direction, a new beginning, to a city of fishermen of lainiers, papermakers, peasants, all of whom, in turn, will disappear or almost disappear.
